Title : No Doubt – Just a girl
Memory Lane Accessed Date: 1998-1999
“Im just a boy”(change the title coz Im a boy ok)
Within Just a girl song by No Doubt, lies 2
stories which happen about 1 year apart from the other if I am not mistaken.
Both was when I was in high school. This is going to be a long one to have your
drinks ready and listen to the song while reading this.
So heres the thing. I was form 3 at the time
and I manage to make a form 4 prefect form another school(taman melawati) to
actually fall for me. It was funny really, those days MIRC was the hottest
social media thingy around. One day I was bored, went to a chat room, got a
girl's number and walla! We started talking and one thing lead to another, we
had fun talking on the phone. When I am in my fun mode, I always set myself a
limit to which if it was crossed, I would end the so called “relationship” that me and the girl had. So
for this case, the limit was when she said she wanted to bake cookies for me. I
was like whattt? You don’t even know me and you want to bake cookies for me? Talk
about telling younger kids to not speak to strangers, this high ranking prefect
from Taman Melawati was about to go all out and bake me cookies(if you think
she meant that in a friendly way and nothing else.. come on… it was obvious
right?). That was when I drop the bomb
on her. Told her I was actually from a different school and I am actually a
year younger. She was silent and hang up.
Thought that was the end of it. I felt
bad a little but hey, it was fun while it lasted.Next thing I knew, she started
calling me again and said it was ok. I was like in telling myself “what was ok?
Me pulling your leg like that was ok?”
as much as she meant it in a sincere and nice way, I couldn’t help
myself but to think shes a lil bit desperate. So I after the conversation ended,
everytime she called, I tell my family members to say I'm not around. Case
Closed.
Now for the 2nd case. This one is
funny. So me and my boys was bored. We were form 5 if I am not mistaken and we
needed a thrill(well.. I told my friends
that we needed a thrill actually). As usual, during that time if you wanna
have some fun(like me) the first place you go to was the MIRC channel. Cut the
story short, I got a number of a girl from Assunta High School. That time Assunta
chics were the in thing. So let the fun times
begins….
We started to chat on the phone for about a
month and then she pop up the question of “Lets meet face to face and in the
process exchange yearbooks" coz she wanted one from my yearbooks. Im like telling
myself “nooo”. I had my experience of a blind date and it was HELL!(tell that
story in another time). And then I got an idea…
I said to her lets meet up at plaza Yow Chuan(now
its double tree by Hilton) at a bowling alley(now closed). That morning I told
my boys about this and inspired them to conspire with me for this thing that
was about to happen. You see In my school I was one of the editors from my Garudamas
year book and those who are in the committee would have their face on the few
front pages of the year book. So I told my friends that we are going to do this,
We will switch roles.
There were 3 of us, My friend “R” would be
playing me because she(nicknamed DDR) haven’t seen my face, whereas I would be
playing as “R”. The third friend would just need to play along with the whole
acting.
So all of us met, introduced ourselves, and
started to bowl. During the game my friends were already feeling scared because
DDR started to suspect something was abit off. My friend “R” doesn’t sound like
me on the phone and certainly didn’t act like me.
And so the time came to us to exchange yearbooks.
When we exchange books, they started flippin the first few pages, they
stopped and stared at a particular page. My third friend (couldnt take the pressure) straight
away told them that it was my idea to do this and he just run out of the place.
DDR, , her sister and about 4 of her friends(yes she brought her whole gang) just stared at me. I was like
woookayy… was it that bad?
“R” was really scared and was hiding behind my
back when DDR confronted me. I said I was sorry but it was obvious that she and
her posse didn’t want to forgive me. They looked angry. Man…
Having a group of girls being angry at you all
at the same time and place can be scary, trust me Ive been there. They just left
without saying goodbyes but I can hear some of them were cursing me
Again, you would think the story ended there,
Well guess whut? It didn’t !!!
A few days later she called and say shes sorry
for storming off and wanted us to be friends again. Im like… heh? I was already
done with the whole situation but she
still wanted us to be friends. I said OK and never called her again.
Last year I look up for her on facebook and she
was there. Probably forgotten about me though but just to be on the safe side,
I ain’t initiating any contact…
